I just got back from the underworld. I entered with Sibyl and we meet Charon,
ferrying the dead. Charon stopped us but with the help of the golden
brough Sibyl convinced him to let us pass. On the other side monstrous Cerberus
resided. Sibyl threw him a sop; slumberous with honey and drugged as well. The
might beast relaxed and fell asleep.
I came across the shade of Dido. With the welling of tears I
tried to show my affection, remorse and smooth her rage but she turned from me
without a word. With tears to I spoke to
my friend Deiphobus, still bearing the marks of the cruel wounds inflicted on
him.
Finally we entered Elysium. When I reached my father I tried
to embrace him but time again and with tears streaming I realized I could not. That’s
when I saw the shades at the river Lethe and ask my father what it meant. My father explained that they were awaiting
rebirth, that they were the unborn shades of our Roman descendants and told me
of the heroes of Rome.
He told me of the Alban Kings, Romulus, Caesar Augustus who
will bring back the age of gold and many others who would make my people the greatest nation in the world. Finally my father told me of the
wars that were to be fought in Italy.
We are sailing north to Caieta.
